What happens after I bring my Divorce Act ISO application to the Court?

Your application will be forwarded by the court to a designated person in Nova Scotia, who will send the application to another designated person in the other province or territory where the respondent lives. The application will then be sent to the appropriate court for a hearing and decision.

You may or may not receive notice of the hearing date, depending on the policy in the other jurisdiction.

Similarly, you may or may not be provided with a copy of the responding ISO forms or documents filed by the respondent. This will be determined by the court or authority in the respondent’s jurisdiction.

You may also be asked to provide additional information throughout this process. Update the court any time your information changes, especially your address or phone number.

You will be given a certified copy of any order granted in the other jurisdiction once the Nova Scotia courts receive it.
