Band-enacted Matrimonial Real Property Laws

A copy of the Matrimonial Real Property Law for each Nova Scotia First Nation is provided here. You should confirm with the appropriate Band Administration Office to make sure that this is the most recent version of the law. The list provided here may not be complete.


Under the Family Homes on Reserves and Matrimonial Interests or Rights Act, First Nations can either choose to follow the federal law, or they can choose to enact their own laws related to matrimonial real property rights and interests. These are laws they can design to meet their needs and respect their customs.

In Nova Scotia, the following Fist Nations have passed their own Matrimonial Real Property (MRP) laws:
