Access to Family Justice Online Evaluation Summary

Printer-friendly version

In 2012, the Nova Scotia Department of Justice and Justice Canada entered into a project funding agreement to improve access to family justice online and to evaluate the implementation of the website during the 2012 – 2013 fiscal year.  The key objective of Nova Scotia’s Access to Family Law Online pilot project was to develop an online public legal information source, focused on family law. This source would contain a wide range of information and tools to assist parties involved in the Nova Scotia family justice system, and to enhance public awareness and understanding of the family justice system, including ways to resolve a family law matter with little direct court involvement.  Another important objective was to develop, deliver, enhance and expand innovative and integrated family justice services online.

The Nova Scotia Family Law website was launched in May, 2012. An initial evaluation of the website was conducted in the 2012 – 2013 fiscal year, and contains an overview of feedback from both service users and stakeholders. The evaluation was positive overall, and contained suggestions for areas of improvement. Work is now underway on the areas for improvement noted in the report.
